NYS Tax Department Issues Sales Tax Guidance Related to COVID-19 Tax Relief
NYS Tax and Finance issued guidance today on the previously announced waiver of fees and penalties on sales tax payments due March 20. However, this guidance states that the waiver only applies to quarterly and annual payments, but not monthly. It further states that to be eligible for the waiver, you must apply online. As the guidance was issued on 3/23, and the announcement was made Friday, 3/20, we are asking for clarification for all of those who pay monthly, and why a distinction like this was made. We will share the response as soon as we get it.
