Association Submits Written Testimony on Small Business Legislation
Monday, April 20, 2015
The NYS Restaurant Association submitted written testimony on July 14, 2015 to the City Council committee hearing on proposed legislation aimed at helping small businesses. If passed, these bills will provide;
- A small business advocate in the Department of Small Business Services,
- Protocols for assisting non-English speaking business owners; and,
- Annual reports on dismissed charges brought before certain administrative judges so the Council can evaluate why these charges are being dismissed.
While the Association supports these new measures, we have made it clear to the Council that no one needs an additional level of bureaucracy slowing down many vital city processes, especially when building a new restaurant. Red tape must be cut, not created and we look forward to helping ensure that is the result of this legislation.
The Association also has advised the Council that this legislation should not detract from the Business Acceleration Team at the New York City Department of Small Business Services. This team has been a vital resource for many of our members and it is important that no one breaks what isn't broken.
