NYC Alert: Organic Separation Law

Tuesday, December 09, 2014

The new composting law that took effect last year would require many restaurants to separate organic waste and engage an entity to dispose of that waste separately. The law had built in “trigger points” that would set dates when the law would begin impacting restaurants.

The press is reporting that the largest facility that could have taken the City’s organic waste has shut down. This means the City will be hard pressed to mandate the composting provisions in 2015.

The New York State Restaurant Association will continue to monitor this issue and keep you updated on the impact of Local Law 146 (the organic separation law) on your business.
