NYC Advocacy Alert: NYS Restaurant Association Gives Feedback on Paid Sick Leave

At the NYC Chapter Board meeting in September, we discussed the impact of the Paid Sick Leave regulation with Council Member Cornegy. As the Chair of the Committee on Small Business, he expressed his support of our organization and recognition for working to ensure restaurant needs are heard in city government.
The New York State Restaurant Association was asked by Council Member Cornegy and Council Member Espinal to give feedback on the implementation of the Paid Sick Leave act. Testimony submitted by the Association:
1. Recognized that the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) has not yet fined any organization and provided substantial guidance and tools to businesses on their website.
2. Reinforced an ‘education first’ approach to help business understand how to implement the regulation.

“The Association believes the DCA should continue to focus on educating businesses, especially restaurants that are often very small operations with limited human resources,” said Chris Hickey, Regional Director NYC for the NYS Restaurant Association.
