“The NYS Restaurant Association is committed to helping restaurants succeed and to do that they need to be prepared in the event of a disaster. This event is designed as part of the National Preparedness Month to give restaurant owners and managers practical instructions to plan for and recover from a disaster in order to maintain operations and help the community,” commented Melissa Autilio Fleischut, President and CEO of the New York State Restaurant Association.
“Natural disasters can result in significant property damage, injuries to employees, business interruption and more. With these factors in mind, learning to manage and insure risk effectively is critical,” said Michael Zeldes, Senior Vice President of HUB International Northeast.
Presenters at the event include Michael Zeldes, Senior Vice President, HUB International Northeast; Guy Gioino, Senior Risk Consultant, HUB International Northeast; Monica Czwarno, Emergency Services Regional Manager of Mass Care, American Red Cross in Greater New York Region; and Ira Tannenbaum, Director of Public/Private Initiatives, NYC Office of Emergency Management.
In addition, the NYC Office of Emergency Management will review its current initiatives and communications protocols for helping business and their employees during a disaster.
“Our Association works closely with the NYC Office of Emergency Management as Emergency Support Functions (ESF) Partner to ensure that our restaurant members have the most up-to-date information on upcoming potential disaster events and how disasters have effected their operations,” said Melissa Autilio Fleischut, President and CEO of the New York State Restaurant Association.
At the event, the American Red Cross will share more details on the Restaurants Active in Disaster Relief (RADR) program. Working together, the NYS Restaurant Association and Red Cross will be mobilizing local restaurants during times of disaster to provide meals, staff, and kitchen space for the community.
“Restaurants are at the heart of every community. Working together to build resiliency and capacity is crucial to the successful recovery of communities in the aftermath of a disaster,” said Monica Czwarno, Emergency Services Regional Manager of Mass Care at the American Red Cross in Greater New York Region.
“We are very excited to partner and support the RADR program with the Red Cross and will be releasing initial details on how restaurants can be active in disaster relief through meal procurement, staffing service sites, and more at the event next week,” said Ms. Fleischut.
