NY ProStart Teacher of the Year Announced

NYS Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Congratulates the 2014 teacher of the year Chef Peter Desmond of Questar III- CoLumbia Greene Education Center

Peter Desmond, CEC, AAC, resides in Poestenkill, New York with his wife of 32 years. He is the father of 4 children and grandfather of two boys.

A graduate of the class of 1981 of the Culinary Institute of America Hyde Park NY, he has been an executive chef for Marriott hotels and resorts, Marriott Management Services, Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, and Interstate Hotel. He has over 30 years of management experience in the hotel/hospitality industry with luxury hotels in New York City such as The Intercontinental Hotel, The Polo Club and The Yale Club a member of the American Culinary Federation, and The American Academy of Chefs.

He is currently the culinary educator for Questar III Columbia Greene Educational Center for the past 4 years and was an adjunct culinary instructor at the Schenectady County community College for over 17 years. He now teaches a total of 45 students (juniors and seniors). The culinary arts program utilizes the Pro-Start curriculum and offers ServSafe certification as well as participation in the Pro Start culinary and management competitions for the past four years.
