NYC Member Alert: Paid Sick Leave Update

Following the signing of the expanded Paid Sick Leave bill, the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) released information on their website regarding guidelines and best practices for business to comply with the new regulation.

Now available on the DCA website is:
Starting April 1, 2014, PSL will:
  • Require restaurants with five or more employees to provide forty hours of paid sick time per year. 
  • Require employers under that threshold to provide unpaid sick leave to their employees. 
  • Allow employees to begin accruing one hour of sick time for every thirty hours they work as soon as they are hired but can take sick time after working for one hundred and twenty days.
  • Cover all employees who work in New York City, including part time or temporary employees. 
UPDATED 4/8/14: Notice of Employee Rights is now available in multiple languages on the DCA website, including English, Spanish, Chinese, French-Creole (Haitian Creole), Italian, Korean, and Russian.
