Please join us on May 7th for a panel discussion on food access issues and policies, specifically the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

Enacted in 2005, and expanded in 2007, the RFS requires annually increasing amounts of biofuels be blended into gasoline — most notably in the form of corn-based ethanol. Diverting food to fuel has raised concerns around commodities prices, land conversion, global stability and national security, and food access/hunger issues. FoodPolicy.US will convene a discussion about these critical issues at the intersection of food and fuel.

  • Melody Barnes  Vice Provost for Global Student Leadership Initiatives at New York University; Former Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council

Panelists will include:

  • Joel Berg — Executive Director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger
  • Sasanka Thilakasiri — Policy Advisor for Oxfam
  • Dr. Carolyn Dimitri — Associate Professor of Food Studies at NYU
